It is pleasing to see so many people organising rallies so that you have places to search over most weekends. Make use of them now because the stewardship scheme is going to cause us loads of problems in the future. For those that do not already know, if the farmer has recently joined this scheme and you want to organise a detecting event where at least 50 detector users are expected to attend, then we as organisers have to give the archaeologists at least three months notice and they have the power to limit where you can search or even cancel the event.
The problem is that we have to place adverts, reserve toilets, etc. and it is going to cost someone a lot of money if it doesn’t take place. I do not know how many of the current organisers are going to take this risk in the future, so I see large rallies declining in numbers in the future. So much for ‘co-operation’.
