Exciting Times Ahead

After having very few new detectors coming onto the markets, now we have both the Minelab E.Trac & the Whites V3 to consider. I am asked several times each day which one is best – but both have their good points.

The E.Trac will suit those of you that want maximum depth without having to ‘play’ with all of the controls. We set it up for you so that all you need do is switch it on and go!

The V3 is also set up for you but will appeal to those of you willing to change a few settings to get that bit extra and it has a meter that is second to none. It also comes with cordless headphones as standard.

Both detectors are much lighter than their predecessors so there is no excuse for you not buying one of them (as long as you do not take their cost into account!) If you haven’t yet seen them in action, why not call into the shop for a demonstration – you are going to be seriously impressed.

Secondhand Detectors

Due to the number of ‘top end’ detectors being sold, this has caused a lot of good quality secondhand metal detectors to suddenly come onto the market thereby forcing down the secondhand prices. If you are looking for a good detector at a very reasonable price, then now would be a good time to take the plunge.

Call us on (01635) 46040 and I will do my best to find the detector that you want.

Metal Detecting Rallies

It is pleasing to see so many people organising rallies so that you have places to search over most weekends. Make use of them now because the stewardship scheme is going to cause us loads of problems in the future. For those that do not already know, if the farmer has recently joined this scheme and you want to organise a detecting event where at least 50 detector users are expected to attend, then we as organisers have to give the archaeologists at least three months notice and they have the power to limit where you can search or even cancel the event.

The problem is that we have to place adverts, reserve toilets, etc. and it is going to cost someone a lot of money if it doesn’t take place. I do not know how many of the current organisers are going to take this risk in the future, so I see large rallies declining in numbers in the future. So much for ‘co-operation’.

Talks

I have given dozens of talks on metal detecting throughout the South of England. If you would like me to visit your club in the future, then please give me a call and lets see if we can find a date suitable to us both. All that I ask is that you cover the cost of my petrol. If any of your members are having problems with their detectors, get them to bring them along to the meeting and I will do my best to help them out.
